Children’s unit and specialist centre for children with cerebral paralysis
In the Indian state of Gujarat, we promote a children’s unit in the Smt. Malini Kishore Sanghvi Hospital & Educational Complex of the Dr M. L. Dhawale Memorial Homeopathic Institute as part of the project ‘Each Life Matters’. In 2015, a centre for children with cerebral paralysis was established there with the support of the Lipoid Stiftung in the scope of the ‘UMMEED’ project—‘Hope Lives Here’. The 99 villages in the surrounding area of the hospital have a particularly high proportion of people who live below the poverty line.
In addition to hospital treatments, the key tasks of the children’s unit include paediatric events and courses as well as doctor’s visits and consultations in the villages in order to raise the awareness of residents toward health risks particular to children and prevent possible disabilities as a result of poor nutrition during pregnancy. Regular school check-ups are conducted. To facilitate doctor’s visits to the surrounding villages, a vehicle was purchased using donations by Lipoid GmbH; the foundation subsequently fitted the vehicle with a wheelchair ramp.
The centre for children with cerebral paralysis has become a centre of excellence that continues to have a positive impact on other institutions and for the benefit of effective therapies far beyond the project area.
The Lipoid Stiftung is committed to supporting the centre and children’s unit for the long term.
