Pediatric Ward and Medical Center for Children with Cerebral Palsy

In the Indian state of Gujarat, near the city of Vadodara, there are about 100 villages with a particularly high proportion of people living below the poverty line. In this area, the Lipoid Stiftung supports a pediatric ward in the hospital of the Dr. M. L. Dhawale Memorial Homeopathic Institute through the “Each Life Matters” project.

In addition to treatment in the hospital, the main tasks of the children’s ward are to organize workshops, lectures, training courses etc. on pediatric topics, as well as offering mobile medical services and consultations in the villages to educate the inhabitants about health risks, especially for children, and prevent possible disabilities due to malnutrition in pregnant women. Regular check-ups in schools are carried out. The vehicle needed for the work in the surrounding villages was purchased with donations from Lipoid GmbH, while the foundation later fitted it with a wheelchair ramp.

In 2015, with the support of the Lipoid Stiftung, a center for children with cerebral palsy was established as part of the “UMMEED – Hope Lives Here” project. The Center for Children with Cerebral Palsy has become a center of excellence, influencing other institutions beyond the actual project area and furthering the development of effective therapies.

On the initiative of the Competence Center, a research project has been initiated, which is also being supported by the Lipoid Stiftung. This project deals with the reciprocal effects of cerebral palsy, mental retardation and malnutrition. It also promotes further education and training measures for care professionals working with disabled children.
